I want to apply for funding, how do I do that?
Each fall (typically September) the Engineering Endowment Fund Administrator sends a communication within the Price Faculty of Engineering that the competition is open for applications. This is done through the EEF website. Applicants must be within the Price Faculty of Engineering and the application must be for funding for activities with the Faculty. When applying you will need to create an account on the EEF website. Once your account has been created, you will be able to start the application process by filling in the application. Submissions are required by the end of the application period, which is announced each year with the start of the competition. The more detailed information you can provide the better your chance of success will be.
Who can apply?
Only members of the University of Manitoba Price Faculty of Engineering can apply (students, staff, Professors).
Student Projects
The Engineering Endowment Fund supports a variety of projects, conferences and student spaces through the annual application competition. In order to have a greater chance of receiving funding for your application it needs to be clear for purpose and scope and have a budget that details funding streams and expenses. Listing who benefits from the project, the schedule of work and competition dates is important. The application process helps you with the fields to be filled in but it is up to you to provide a clear and concise application. See the Guidelines for more details.
Joint funding
When applying it is important to understand that the Engineering Endowment Fund alone cannot fund all projects so it is a benefit to your project to fund raise from other organizations. This helps the review committee to see the effort put into your work and allows more projects to receive at least partial funding annually.
Review Process - Greatest Benefit
Part of the review process looks at the benefits to the greatest number of students, particularly for large cost applications. This can be in a given year or over time. Smaller group applications are always welcomed as not every application type may benefit a large number of students and smaller groups may have less opportunity to fund raise from outside sources.
Changes
Sometimes plans change or a funded item is not available. If your plans for an approved project change contact the Engineering Endowment Fund Administrator. Small changes can usually be approved fairly quickly, larger changes especially those that may change the focus of the original proposal generally require the Engineering Endowment Fund Advisory Committee to review and provide direction if the change is approved.
Undergraduate Focus
Applications related to student activities and projects must involve or directly benefit undergraduate students.
Can I make an application for Bursaries and Scholarships through the Endowment Fund?
No. Scholarship and Bursary Proposals will not be accepted and funded directly by the Engineering Endowment Fund.
*To apply for Scholarships and Bursaries, individuals must visit the Financial Aid and Awards Website @ https://umanitoba.ca/financial-aid-and-awards.
The rules for scholarships and bursaries are provided through that organization.
Laboratory and Teaching Space Funding
The Engineering Endowment Fund recognized that there is great need to upgrade and renew laboratories that support the teaching experience. Accordingly, the Dean collaborates with Department Heads to produce a priority list for funding for consideration each year. The Department Heads reach out to personnel in their departments for items of need. The Engineering Endowment Fund funds this list allocating funding to it once all student projects have been evaluated. Other equipment applications from staff or professors are not considered because of the need to prioritize based on the greatest need identified by the Dean and Department Heads.
What is the Engineering Endowment Fund Advisory Committee?
The Advisory Committee or EEFAC reviews and recommends funding for applications on an annual basis. The review is based on parameters to ensure that applications are well developed and have support to ensure funds are well used. As suggested by the name the EEFAC provides advice of these recommendations to the Office of the Dean of Engineering.
